On September 3rd and 4th, a workshop titled "Nuclear Materials Accountancy in Action" was held in collaboration with the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SÚJB). The workshop was part of the Czech support program for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and was attended by 15 experts from the IAEA's headquarters in Vienna. During the event, they toured our key infrastructure, including both reactors, Centre for highly sensitive analytical instruments, and the Cold Crucible facility. The program also featured expert lectures by Ing. Vlastimil Juříček and Ing. Bence Mezsároš, who specialize on nuclear material accountancy.
The workshop aimed to share practical experiences in the field of nuclear material accountancy, present the specific methods used in the field, and discuss feedback on previously identified accounting errors, including the impact of human factors, as well as tools and procedures for preventing future errors.
IAEA representatives specializing in data analysis and the monitoring of global nuclear material flow appreciated the opportunity to see the practical handling of nuclear materials, which helped them connect abstract database data with real-world operations. Given the positive feedback from the participating experts, it is expected that similar events will be held regularly in the future.
