CVŘ is involved in the liquidation of the consequences of the Fukushima accident

On 12th October 2016, the Research Centre Řež gathered at the working meeting of our experts with representatives of Japanese companies Marubeni and Hitachi GE. Discussions covered technical details of the works, focused on the issue of separation of actinides and fission products from the wreckage of melted fuel under the damaged reactors of the nuuclear power plant Fukushima Daiichi. The aim of this contract is a joint development process pyro-chemical separation of uranium and plutonium from the fuel debris by fractional distillation of fluorides. Traditional hydrometallurgical processes reprocessing in this case cannot be used, because of damaged and corroded after fusion fuel is now likely to be practically insoluble in mineral acids.
